Founding Engineer – Backend / Infrastructure / ML Systems

Our client is a very early-stage AI infrastructure startup building production-grade systems that help enterprises transform complex unstructured documents into structured, machine-readable outputs for downstream AI and agent workflows. They are tackling high-value problems across demanding industries and are looking for foundational engineers to help build the platform from the ground up.

The role:
A highly technical, high-ownership founding engineer role focused on architecting scalable backend services, running production infrastructure, and helping translate research workflows into reliable enterprise-grade systems. You will work closely with the founders and shape the technical direction of the business from day one.

What you will do:
Architect, build, and scale backend systems powering document intelligence workflows
Own production infrastructure across deployment, monitoring, reliability, and performance
Design and operate high-throughput, low-latency services in real-world environments
Take systems from early prototype through to production and enterprise scale
Build and maintain cloud and on-prem deployments for customers
Establish best practices across CI/CD, observability, debugging, and incident response
Work closely with founders and researchers to productionise advanced AI systems

What you will need:
2+ years in backend, infrastructure, DevOps, or ML engineering
Strong backend engineering skills, especially Python
Experience with distributed systems, microservices, queues, and caching systems (e.g. Redis)
Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi)
Strong ownership mindset and comfort in a fast-moving startup environment
C++ or Rust experience is a strong plus
Experience serving ML or GPU-heavy workloads is a plus
